Our Authors

This blog is co-written by several members of the City Manager’s office.

Mike Legg, City Manager. Mike is the equivalent of the CEO of Kannapolis. He oversees all daily operations and serves at the pleasure of the City Council. When Mike isn’t working for the residents of Kannapolis you can find him fly fishing in a national park somewhere. Wanna contact him? Here’s his email.

Eddie Smith, Deputy City Manager. Eddie serves as Mike’s right hand and has specific oversight of public works, finance, parks and recreation, IT and human resources. He loves working for the people, but in his downtime he keeps very close tabs on his beloved Appalachian Mountaineers. Some have also accused him of being the number one Kannapolis Intimidator’s fan. Contact him here.

Irene Sacks, Director of Business & Community Affairs. Irene wears a lot of hats and works on projects for the City that include overseeing planning & zoning, HUD programs and marketing. When she’s not busy dreaming up ways to help the City adapt to the changes brought by the NC Research Campus, Irene likes to spend time biking around the county. She loves reader e-mail, and you can find her here.

Renee Goodnight, Community Outreach Coordinator. Want to plug into the City? Renee’s your person. She oversees two city boards — the ESC and DNC — and also plans Kannapolis Kares Day and other events with City partners. When Renee isn’t out and about coordinating volunteers or organizing a stream clean-up you can find her recycling. She also enjoys hiking with her family, but really, she loves living the green life. Have ideas? Toss her a line.

Ann Gibson, Communications Director – Ann is responsible for the City’s communication with residents and the business community through Kannapolis Matters, eKannapolis, and the City’s two websites. When she’s not typing away on her laptop, Ann is most often hiking the AT or kayaking on the coast. If you have news to share with the Kannapolis community, contact Ann here.

Maria Bostian, Public Safety Educator – Maria serves as Public Safety Educator for Kannapolis Fire Department and coordinates & conducts safety programs throughout the city.  She also oversees the annual Open House event each fall.  When she is not at work or at a community event you can find her at home with a good book.  Interested in a safety program for your group or organization?  Contact her here.

Becky Tolle, Recreation & Special Event Coordinator –  It was grey and rainy day when Becky arrived in Kannapolis  with a parks and recreation degree and a dream.  She shook off her umbrella, slid off her raincoat, and said, “This is such a great place! The sun should always shine in Kannapolis.” And since then, the sun almost always shines on her events.  Becky coordinates and implements recreation programs and special events in our community.  In addition to the ever popular Summer Event Series, the Parks and Recreation Department has events all year long, and this blog is a good way to keep up with everything.  If you have ideas, suggestions, comments or questions, Becky is a good one to contact.  You can email her here.
